The Back2School Rally is a yearly community-wide event held at the First Baptist Church of Watauga. The idea sprang from two members of FBCW, seeking God’s direction, in 2008, to serve locally to meet needs and display the love of Jesus. With no budget & no prior experience, over 200 “school supply packs” were given out that first summer. The following year in 2009, the Sertoma Club of Watauga and United Methodist joined in the event to establish a solid base. There were 1,000 backpacks donated with school supplies & 500 were handed out at the event, along with haircuts, entertainment & food. The additional backpacks were delivered to Watauga Elementary and Grace Hardeman Elementary.

In 2010, all three Watauga elementary schools were involved and supplies were also provide for Watauga Middle School. The challenge was becoming greater, but God was and is up to the task! We supplied 1,000 backpacks, giving away 750 of them at the event along with over 225 haircuts, what a success! The event included 8 local churches, the Watauga Police & Fire Department, Sertoma and several other community business’ who helped plan, organize and provide supplies for the children. Once again, the additional backpacks were distributed to the participating schools.

What an awesome adventure He has taken us all on, just by obeying His directions. The community is looking forward to next year’s event to be held August 13, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Watauga grounds.
