The year of the Bible at FBC Watauga
Every member of the church is encouraged to spend a few minutes reading God’s Word every day of 2011. We will join together to dig deep into the Bible. Each week the Sunday School lesson for every youth and adult class will come from these Bible readings. The Sunday Morning sermons will come directly from these readings as well. In addition for 2011, the Sunday Evening format will be adjusted to a more traditional worship format with a message each week from one of the ministers from these readings.
The Purpose
The Bible is God’s story of redemption preserved throughout the ages. In it, we find the words that lead to eternal life. It is a guide for daily living and a map for future planning. It is uniquely suited for teaching, redirection, correction and edification. It is living and powerful. It penetrates the soul - as a sharp two-edged sword would penetrate one’s flesh.
God has promised that His Word will not return void. Though scripture is already the foundation of all we believe, teach, preach and do, we believe that God will transform His people as we step up to this challenge to walk together in His Word for all of 2011!
The Bible Version
We would strongly encourage you to take advantage of one of the highly readable new versions of the Bible. There are many versions that do a good job of translating the ancient languages without compromising their meaning. Some of these include the New International Version, Revised Standard Version, English Standard Version, Holman Christian Study Bible and The New Living Translation. Br. Dennis studies from many of these translations as well as the original languages. He has chosen the New American Standard Bible for his preaching Bible. As long as you use a reputable translation, the most important thing is that you actually read it!
Though the King James Version is a good standard translation, most modern readers find its old English difficult to read and confusing. If you have any questions concerning bible translations, you are encouraged to contact Br. Dennis or Paul Michael. We would be glad to discuss these important issues with you.

The Reading Plan
We will follow a Chronological reading plan that is readily accessible in many forms. It was developed by the web based ministry, Blue Letter Bible, that provides many free bible study tools.
Every week an insert will be provided in you bulletin containing the readings for the coming weeks. The plan is available online (click here) and in the office.
Electronic Access to the Reading Plan
Blue Letter Bible has also developed a good iPhone Bible application that can be used to follow this reading plan. In addition, many smart-phone users who already use YouVersion for their Bible reading will find that the chronological reading plan included with that application is the same one developed by Blue Letter Bible.
